When going to see the Doctor...

these days, you almost need to have a medical degree!

Let me tell you about a little story that could have ended badly. My mother went to the hospital earlier this week to check her eyes. She went in thinking she had cataracts but when they had another look they told her it was glaucoma. They told her they had to laser her eyes right there! After the proceedure she waited for half hour before she could drive home. The next day she went to work feeling a little pain in the eyes. The pain got worse and she had to leave early. It got so bad by the next day and when she could hardly see, she called the hospital. They told her to come back.

When she got there another doctor looked at her eyes. He then asked if she was taking the drops they gave her. "What drops?" she asked. He asked again in disbelief, "they didn't give you any drops?" "No, nothing and I even asked if there was something I should do after the laser treatment" she said.

***Can you spell LAWSUIT****????? WTF, (I don't even swear but it has to be said) what were they thinking??? It turns out because they neglected to give her the drops she had gotten a major eye infection.

They gave my mother a prescription for drops with steroids in it and thankfully, it has been getting better!

So beware people, always read up a little on whatever they(doctors) say you have so that you have a little knowledge and can ask questions that may REMIND some doctor to treat you right!

***my mom won't sue, but I told her to document everything, I guess I just did that for her***

OMG!!! How horrible! I hope your mum is feeling and getting better as I read this ... Good grief!!! I can't believe the carelessness of some hospitals!!!

Thank you both for your concern. Yes she is getting much better with the medication. I still can't believe it.

I'm really sorry about your mum... honestly it's not carelessness... Most of these people work (and are overworked) in hospitals because they are passionate about healing people; still the best of them can make mistakes! Lucky for me, if *I* make a mistake I have to redraw an image – not worry about whether I've nearly blinded someone.
I hope your mother makes a very quick recovery!! She is lucky to have such a caring daughter.

That is insane, not to mention scary!! I hope your mother is doing a lot better now. Thank God this wasn't a surgery or something!
